Mandarinbet: a Mandarin vocabulary game
Mandarinbet is a free, browser-based Mandarin Chinese vocabulary game built for Turkish speakers. A Chinese word appears with its pinyin; you wager 1, 2 or 5 points on one of four Turkish meanings. Right answers earn points, wrong ones cost them.
The name
Mandarin is the Western name for Standard Chinese, 普通话 (pǔtōnghuà). Bet is the game mechanic: every question asks how sure you are. Put together, Mandarinbet means "wager points on Mandarin words". There is no money, no account and nothing to download; points are just points. Mandarinbet is an independent language-learning project and is not connected to any other organisation, service or product with a similar name.
What is inside
- 598 words from the HSK 1, 2 and 3 lists, each with hanzi, pinyin, a Turkish meaning and an example sentence. The lists are published openly: HSK 1, HSK 2, HSK 3.
- Ten short lessons in Turkish for absolute beginners: tones and pinyin, numbers, greetings, measure words, time and dates, questions, negation, family, ordering food. See Dersler.
- The game itself on the home page: start with 100 points, choose a level, wager, answer. Your score is kept only in your browser's local storage.
How scoring works
A correct answer earns ten times your wager; a wrong one loses the same amount. The 5-point wager unlocks once you hold at least 50 points, so a single mistake can never wipe you out. Points never go below zero. Full rules (in Turkish): Nasıl Oynanır.
